Principles of Privacy

Our policies adhere to the “Ten Principles of Privacy” which comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and corresponding provincial privacy acts.
1 – Accountability
An organization is responsible for personal information under its control and shall designate an individual or individuals who are accountable for the organization’s compliance with the following principles.


FiberConX is accountable for all personal information in its possession or control, including any personal information transferred to third parties for processing. FiberConX has established policies and procedures to comply with this Privacy Code, and has a designated Privacy Officer accountable for compliance.

2 – Identifying Purposes
The purposes for which personal information is collected shall be identified by the organization at or before the time the information is collected.


FiberConX will inform all individuals of the purpose for which their personal information will be used before or when they consent to its collection.

3 – Consent
The knowledge and consent of the individual are required for the collection, use, or disclosure of personal information, except where inappropriate.


FiberConX will obtain/receive consent before or when it collects, uses or discloses personal information about any individual. Any individual can provide consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information about them expressly, implicitly, or through an authorized representative. Any individual can withdraw consent at any time, with certain exceptions. FiberConX will collect, use or disclose personal information without an individual’s consent only in limited circumstances as permitted by law.

4 – Limiting Collection
The collection of personal information shall be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified by the organization. Information shall be collected by fair and lawful means.


FiberConX limits the amount and type of personal information it collects and keeps. FiberConX will only collect personal information for the identified purposes or as otherwise permitted/required by law.

5 – Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention
Personal information shall not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information shall be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes.

FiberConX has taken extensive measures to ensure the confidentiality of your information and to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure.

6 – Accuracy
Personal information shall be as accurate, complete, and up-to-date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used.


FiberConX will keep the personal information in its possession or control accurate and complete. This will be based on the most recent information provided to FiberConX. Individuals may challenge the accuracy and completeness of personal information about them at any time and have it amended as appropriate.

7 – Safeguards
Personal information shall be protected by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.


FiberConX protects personal information with safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. The personal information that you provide to us will be secured in our systems using strong encryption and password protection. We also have organizational processes in place to limit access to your personal information to selected groups of individuals.

8 – Openness
An organization shall make readily available to individuals specific information about its policies and practices relating to the management of personal information.


FiberConX will be open about the procedures used to manage personal information. Individuals will have access to information about these procedures through this Privacy Code, by contacting our Privacy Officer. The information will be available in a format that is easy to understand.

9 – Individual Access
Upon request, an individual shall be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of his or her personal information and shall be given access to that information. An individual shall be able to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.


When an individual personal requests it from FiberConX, we will advise the individual what personal information we have in our possession or control about that individual, what it is being used for, and to whom it has been disclosed.

When an individual requests it, FiberConX will give an individual access to personal information about them which is in our possession or control. In certain situations, however, we may not be able to give individuals access to all of their personal information.

10 – Challenging Compliance
An individual shall be able to address a challenge concerning compliance with the above principles to the designated individual or individuals accountable for the organization’s compliance.
